Full-value cover for goods in transit

Skjoldmark writes full-value transit cover for parcels, pallets, containers and full loads. Parcel van, LTL trailer, ocean container, or the cross-dock in between, all on one policy that pays on the invoice value.

Full-value transit cover

Declared value is a carrier’s promise with a ceiling. Sixty cents a pound does not rebuild a pallet of laptops, and the carrier decides whether the claim is valid at all. Skjoldmark insures what you invoiced and adds freight and duty on request. The carrier’s opinion of the claim has no bearing on when we pay.

  • Invoice value plus freight and duty, with an agreed profit margin of up to 10% on top
  • Attaches when the goods leave your shelf and detaches at the buyer’s signature, with cross-docks, sort centres, yard trailers and the returns leg included
  • Theft from a parked trailer, a pallet dropped at transhipment, a carton crushed on the sort belt and a return opened before scan-in are each named in the wording as covered events

Theft and damage protection

Goods rarely vanish outright. They come back wrong. An e-commerce return arrives resealed with the phone missing. A pallet of monitors is forklifted through its own stretch wrap at the cross-dock. A trailer is opened overnight at a truck stop and half the LTL load is gone by morning. A reefer door is left ajar in a border queue. We write the cover around those moments.

  • All-risk wording as the default; named perils only when you ask for a narrower, cheaper form
  • Cold-chain deviation for chilled and frozen food, paid on the temperature log once the deviation is confirmed
  • Mysterious disappearance and short-delivery cover for parcels and LTL, where the carrier’s scan record is the only evidence

Claims settled in the field

Ninety-four percent of our claims close within 30 days. The method is plain: an inspector goes to the goods and looks at them. Damaged parcels are inspected where they arrive, and salvage is priced the same week. Recovery from the carrier is our job, and we start it after you have been paid.

  • 24/7 loss notification: report a broken seal at 02:00 and an inspector is assigned before the depot opens
  • Inspection at your dock, the 3PL, the returns centre or the carrier terminal, with a photo record and report you can forward to your customer
  • Carrier recovery and salvage handled by Skjoldmark; the recovery never sets the date of your payment

Programs by volume

One wording, scaled to how much you move

A single transit policy covers most shippers on day one. When goods start sitting in third-party racks, moving through a checkout page, crossing a border under someone else’s paperwork, or coming back as returns, these programs extend the same cover without a second contract.

Forwarder open cover

Certificates issued per shipment against an annual open cover, so you quote insurance next to the freight rate and the risk never sits on your own paper.

3PL & fulfilment cover

Stock under your control, on the rack, on the sort belt, in the returns cage or on a yard trailer, covered even when the merchant bought nothing of their own.

Stock-through cover

From the supplier’s dock to the store shelf on one form. It closes the gap where transit cover ends and property cover has not yet begun, which is where most warehouse losses fall through.

Checkout protection

A protection line at checkout that pays the shopper from our funds when a parcel is stolen from the porch, crushed in the sort, delivered to the wrong address or returned empty. Your support team stops filing carrier claims.

Manufacturer turnover cover

Inbound components and outbound finished goods under one annual cover, rated on declared turnover, so nobody has to remember to insure the Tuesday truck.

Electronics & high-value goods

Phones, GPUs, medical devices and pallets of branded apparel attract theft the way nothing else does. Per-pallet limits, sealed-trailer conditions, GPS-tracking warranties and theft-from-trailer cover, written by underwriters who know what a pallet of handsets is worth on the street.

Why shippers choose us

Underwritten by people who have opened the box

Cargo underwriters by trade

Our founders wrote cargo in Gothenburg before they wrote a business plan. The people pricing your risk have read carrier tariffs, packing specs, surveyor reports and claim files. They know what a crushed corner costs.

Exclusions you can count

Exclusions are where a policy stops working. Ours are short and listed on one page, with a plain explanation beside each. Transhipment, cross-dock storage, rough handling and yard storage sit inside the cover, with limits in plain numbers.

94% settled in 30 days

Ninety-four percent of claims are paid within 30 days of the file being complete. If a claim stalls, you get a named handler and their direct line.

Same team, bind to payout

The underwriter who wrote your cover sits two desks from the handler who settles your claim. There is no third-party administrator, so nobody asks you to tell the story twice.

14 offices, 110+ trade lanes

Claims and inspection contacts in North America and Northern Europe who know the depots, ports, terminals and carriers on each lane you run.

Carrier-agnostic by design

Parcel, LTL, full truckload, rail, air, ocean. Change carriers next month and the cover stays exactly where it was, on the goods.

Send us a month of shipments

Lanes, modes, declared values, and the losses you absorbed. You get a policy structure and an indicative rate within two working days, written by the underwriter who will handle your file.
